Subsequent installation of the new BEG HaVent® drinking water system in Giengen

Common

The new Hawle 993-00 drinking water aeration and ventilation set combines the high-performance HaVent® valve and the tried-and-tested Hawlinger® shut-off valve with the advantages of a corrosion-resistant compact polyethylene manhole. Stadtwerke Giengen provided the opportunity for a trial installation. The task for the Hawle team on site was to drill into an existing drinking water pipe made of PE with an outer diameter of 225 mm and to retrofit the new aeration and ventilation set with a pipe cover of 1.0 m.

The first step was to install a HAKU tapping bridge with a DN 80 flange outlet on the exposed pipe. It was important to align it vertically so that the aeration and ventilation set was upright and the aeration and ventilation valve could work optimally. A pressure test was carried out to check whether the tapping bridge was tight. The Hawle tapping unit was then set up with a tapping bell. A 68 mm diameter hole cutter with a centring drill was used to drill the hole. As the pipeline was out of service, the tapping process had to be carried out dry. After successful drilling, a DN 80/50 FFR piece was installed. Careful disinfection was carried out during each assembly step.

The HaVent® air release valve with its unique rolling diaphragm technology is ideally suited both for venting large volumes of air when filling and emptying the line and for venting large volumes of air under operating pressure. The BEV operates continuously from 0 to 16 bar and seals perfectly even when depressurised. The Hawle team demonstrated the installation and removal of the valve and explained the most important maintenance steps.

The HaVent® and the Hawlinger® shut-off valve are connected via a bayonet connection. The HaVent® is fitted with an unlocking safety device that secures the valve with a spanner bar. The key rod is actuated with a valve spanner and the Hawlinger® is closed and emptied by turning it halfway round. The valve can only be removed when the shut-off valve is closed and only with the special installation tool. The Hawle employees also presented the matching flush and drain set, which is also equipped with the bayonet system and can therefore be easily installed and fixed with the spanner bar. The base plate is equipped with a drain to remove any splash water from the sump. A soakaway hose is connected to this, which is filled with seepage-capable material. The installation of the new aeration and ventilation set was carried out to the complete satisfaction of everyone involved.

The aeration and ventilation set is available in the four pipe covers 1.00 m, 1.25 m, 1.50 m and 1.75 m and in the connection variants DN 50, flange DN 80 and BAIO® spigot end DN 80.
